from The snake takes its name from Python, the monstrous serpent of Greek myth that Apollo slew at Delphi; the word passed through Latin into English as a name for big constricting snakes. The programming language, however, owes nothing to herpetology: its creator Guido van Rossum named it after the British comedy troupe Monty Python's Flying Circus — so the coder's python is a cousin of comedy, not of cobras, even if the logo eventually embraced the snake.
